Distracted Driving
Distracted driving is a problem which concerns all of us, no matter where we live. Every day, a person in Canada dies from distracted driving. In fact, more people die from distracted driving than impaired driving. Distracted driving happens when a driver takes their eyes off the road. This includes a number activities such as texting, eating, conversing with passengers, reaching for something under a seat, and even fixing hair and/or makeup. A study found that in 80% of collisions, the driver had looked away from the road for only 3 seconds prior to the crash. In BC, you can be ticketed a minimum of $368 for driving distracted. Distracted driving not only affects one's self but the people around them. As vehicles become safer due to all the technology used to protect us, there may be the perception that we as drivers are also becoming safer. While technology such as Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay can make it easier to navigate the roads, it is still important to put your full attention on the road and be aware of the traffic ahead and around you.
